My most recent Video about "IBD" having nothing to do with Crohn's Disease seemed to stir up some passionate comments about BOTH some inaccuracies I stated and my overall position. This Video is intended at correcting and clarifying the situation. In short: "IBS" - Irritable Bowel Syndrome - is a "Disorder of Function" and sometimes is referred to as Spastic Colon. It does NOT involve INFLAMMATION. "IBD" - Inflammatory Bowel Disease - is much more serious and is an umbrella term for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis in which the key is painful "inflammation" of the digestive track (and other areas). The Mainstream seems to rely upon using "IBD" to Globally Brand Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis and that has always puzzled me since the operative word, "Inflammatory," is seemingly innocuous compared to the diverse Ravages of each illness. If I polled 100 people in my neighborhood, I would bet that the majority of them would have NO IDEA about Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis and their seriousness. Well, if we want RESPECT and RECOGNITION in the workplace and society as well as Funds for Research, doesn't that mean that the "Mainstream" approach of using "IBD" is not working as effectively as it should be? We are talking about Diseases which can DEVASTATE YOUR LIFE & LIFESTYLE - why are they being "fronted" by such a Docile term as "Inflammatory"? I can't speak for others but MY Crohn's Disease has certainly earned its own Ribbon!
