I've heard it said many times; 'I can't help being fat. It's in my genes!'
Well now there seems to be scientific findings that could just back up this claim, although just how much emphasis can be placed on this discovery remains to be seen.According to a recent study by British scientists in Exeter, a clear genetic link to obesity has been discovered, that is carried by significant numbers of people.
One copy of the gene leads to a 1.2kg (2.6lb) weight increase while those with two copies are on average 3kg (6.6lb) heavier.
Obesity is the second largest cause of death in the UK. Two thirds of adults are overweight and of those, nearly a quarter are obese.
Until now, the focus for treating obesity has been about a change in lifestyle, through diet and exercise, but the research shows genetic factors can also make a big difference to the results that you may or may not achieve.
HOWEVER, scientists are quick to point out that while you may or may not have this strain of the obesity gene, you will still have to watch what you eat and exercise regularly if you want to maintain or achieve a healthy bodyfat level and aesthetic image.
Sorry guys, there really is no other way to beat that bodyfat, except the old fashioned way; regular, sensible eating and effective exercise.
It really does work. Preparation, patience and consistency will get you there. Stick to the program and you will win the race!
