You can help prevent coronary heart disease with health supplements. Supplements can keep your heart working efficiently, in order for the rest of your body to be healthy as well. Below is a list of health supplements known to help prevent coronary heart disease:
Vitamin E. Vitamin E works to block the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids and LDL in the membranes of the heart. It also works to help keep blood from sticking to the artery sides, which can help keep you from having blocked arteries. Sources of Vitamin E can be found naturally in meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, as well as in wheat germ, vegetable oils, and seed oils. The recommended amount of Vitamin E is 30mg per day. However, as this amount can be rather difficult to get via your food only, you may have to consider adding a supplement as well.
Vitamin C. Vitamin C is water-soluble, which means that what is not used is removed from your body via urine. Hence, you need to have Vitamin C daily. It aids your body by preventing and reversing the constriction of your veins. Some all-natural sources of Vitamin C include tomatoes, cabbage, citrus fruits, and green leafy vegetables. You should try to eat these foods raw, as cooking tends to destroy the Vitamin C.
Beta-carotene. This is one supplement that we are still learning about. It can help inhibit LDL creation, but it does not prevent it entirely. You can find beta-carotene in yellow-green vegetables, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, squash, and carrots, amongst others.
You would need to take these supplements continuously to prevent coronary heart disease for a period of one to two years. Both men and women can benefit by having these supplements and there is very little reported side effects with taking them.
The side effects of Vitamin C are only observed when too much is taken. These side effects include an increased incidence of kidney stones, bloating of the stomach, and diarrhea. Vitamin E should not be taken if you are on anticoagulants. Hence, do make sure that you check with your doctor first about taking these supplements. Beta-carotene needs to be taken as directed, due to the fact that more than 30mg daily could cause your skin to yellow.
