Generally when ever somebody complains about fatigue or weight gain or loss, doctor’s advice them to have proper diet and some amount of exercise. But one needs to very careful and should access if this are the symptom of some other major health problem.

Among many diseases theses symptoms may be due to thyroids disorder. Only after blood test one can properly conclude that the symptoms are due to thyroid disorder. Thyroid is a small butterfly shape glands located in the neck below the voice box. The thyroid is the main endocrine gland, which regulate the rate of metabolism through production of iodine. Containing thyroid hormones, T3 or triiodothyronine and the T4 or thyroxine. In children theses hormones are also essential for normal physical growth and mental development.

Thyroid disorder is common, affecting in most case to women rather than men. Although not life threatening, but can have many adverse effect to health and well being. It mainly affects person moods, sensitivity to cold and heat and weight gain or loss. Thyroids disorders are basically are of 2 types.

Hypothyroidism or insufficient production of thyroids hormone.
This may have effect of slowing down of body. The most common symptom are fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, constipation and sensitivity to cold. In children such a deficiency leads to growth retardation, coarseness of facial features and mental impaired.

Decreased libido On the other hand some people produces excess thyroids hormones leading to a state of Hyperthyroidism in which the body sped up. This leads to fatigue, weight loss, anxiety, palpitation, sweating, and diarrhea and in toleration to heat. Both the condition can de diagnosed with the simple blood test and in moist cases treatment with medication help people feel normal again.

Common symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism
· Palpitations· Heat intolerance· Nervousness· Insomnia· Breathlessness· Increased bowel movement· Light or absent menstrual periods Fatigue· Fast heart rate· Trembling hands· Weight loss· Muscle weakness· Warm moist skin· Hair loss· Staring gazeAnother common problem is the goiter or enlargement of the thyroid glands, visible as swelling in the neck region. The glands become enlarged due to various reasons including inflammation or an autoimmune disorder, but particularly due to lack of iodine in the diet. The thyroid requires iodine to produce hormone; a deficiency causes the enlargement.

Thyroids problem can occur at any age and those with a family history are at higher risk. One should be aware of his/her body and report ant changes that last more than normal to the doctor. Inclusion of iodine in diet is vital (The government is doing its bit by advertising people to use iodine rich salt).

Among any of the problem mentioned above consult your doctor as soon as you find something irregularities in you body.
