Initially, Type 1 diabetes symptoms may not signal danger. And, sometimes they appear quickly and threatening. Once started, they can progress rapidly over a span of weeks or a few months, and if action is take promptly they are usually diagnosed promptly. The most common type 1 diabetes symptoms seen are:
Excessive thirst. This is a very common symptom of type 1 diabetes. Other symptoms (dehydration caused by excessive urination) makes the patient feel thirsty all the time.Excessive urination: The body tries to rid itself of excess sugar by way of the urine which encourages more urination. This often results in dehydration. Besides diabetes, several other health problems share this symptom so be sure to have it checked out.
Without adequate insulin to send sugar to your body's cells, muscles and organs become deprived of energy. The result is extreme hunger. You may feel hungry even after you eat a meal.
Weight loss, sometimes rapid weight loss, is common in spite of eating more than you normally do. This is because the body breaks down muscle and stored fat while trying to send fuel to the hungry cells.
Fatigue is a common type 1 diabetes symptom. You may become tired, irritable, even angry because your cells aren't getting enough sugar.
Your vision may become blurry if you have excessive blood sugar. The lenses of your eyes can become deprived of fluid and focusing becomes difficult.
Nausea and vomiting is sometimes a type 1 diabetes symptom due to excessive blood sugar.
Type I Diabetes, (formerly called insulin-dependent or juvenile diabetes) needs to be taken seriously, and treatment if needed should be started promptly. Be sure to consult your doctor if you're concerned about diabetes or if you notice any type 1 diabetes symptoms.
