There are millions of people that suffer from outbreaks of cold sores. These cold sores show up at random it seems, and can strike at any time. If you or someone you know has a problem with cold sores I'm sure that you know what I am talking about. The cold sore is not a disease in itself, rather it is the outward sign that you have the herpes simplex virus, a virus for which the medical community has no cure. Most of the population is infected already with the herpes simplex virus, according to some estimates up to 80% of all people are carrying the virus, but only a small percentage of those people actually get the outbreak of cold sores, or fever blisters, that some of us suffer from.
Cold sores are typically found on the lips and under the nose, although they can really appear on any part of the face, it is just less common. At times you may find the someone gets cold sores in the mouth, and although these are less common, they are not any less uncomfortable on inconvenient. The herpes simplex virus also tends to stick to the same part of your face, so if you have the cold sores in the mouth from an outbreak then you will typically get cold sores in the mouth on any future outbreaks.
There are several things that are available either through a prescription or over the counter at your local drug store that claim to help with cold sores. Some of them are for topical applications only so be careful with choosing one for cold sores in the mouth. The only problem with these types of treatments is that they only really treat the symptom and not the disease itself, and they tend to carry some potential side effects that are better avoided in my opinion.
Many people have also tried to treat their cold sores in the mouth with natural or homeopathic cures. There are many people who claim not only to have fewer cold sores but that the treatment has stopped the recurrence of their cold sores once and for all. Perhaps one of these types of treatments would work for you as well.
